exhibit-e Unique functions of art collection digital management

My interview with exhibit-E continues to explore some practical points of digital art inventory management. If you have questions or concerns in this area, fire away!!

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A WEB BASED INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?

With galleries and collectors attending over half a dozen art fairs a year, the Web is clearly the smartest way to connect all the pieces. Imagine the thrill of surfing your inventory online while on the go or at an art fair. Track everything from your contacts and transactions to invoices, exhibition history and ownership history or provenance. Instantly updating appraisals and cataloguing. Knowing the cost of photographing, framing, hanging, restoration, shipping and insurance from anywhere online.

Quickly viewing your artwork online from across the globe. Simply put, you can spend your time managing your artwork rather than your software. Faster and easier. More securely and affordably.

EXHIBIT-E SERVES THE  GALLERY MARKET AND MAJOR GALLERIES INTERNATIONALLY.  WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE UNIQUE FUNCTION OF ART GALLERY  AND COLLECTOR WEBSITES?

Art is not a commodity. Although it is sold from a gallery to a collector or museum, the process is much more complicated than selling books, CDs or consumer electronics.

It is a mission of communication and presentation: the website must serve as a well-designed and easily navigated catalogue of a gallery program or a collection, both in its content and its look. Each gallery and collection has its own identity, and it is the job of the website designer to create design that delivers an online version of that experience. Design and the “artfulness” of a website are nearly as important as its function. But a website must work properly as well. The information must be accurate, and it must be easy to access.
