Thank you, Leslie, for giving me the opportunity to talk about our company and the many aspects of the art handling industry. As you have mentioned, we were founded in 1994. At the time we owned a small construction company and were building galleries in Soho. One day we were asked to transport some artwork in our van, and one thing led to another. We soon started building crates for shipping and in 1997 we moved into the 38th Avenue location in Long Island City we still occupy today.
WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF SERVICES THAT SAT PROVIDES? I AM FAMILIAR WITH SEVERAL ASPECTS: ART INSTALLATIONS, TRANSPORT, SHIPPING AND SHUTTLE ARRANGEMENTS, AND CUSTOMS CLEARANCE. CAN YOU PROVIDE US WITH DETAILS ON THESE ANCILLARY SERVICES AND ANY OTHERS THAT SAT OFFERS?
In addition to installation, transport and shipping, we are very proud of our state-of-the-art crate shop, which has been turning out everything from simple wooden boxes for FedEx or Ups shipping, to museum quality crates. Some of the crates we build provide a micro environment for the artworks they house. By being insulated, water-proofed and having gaskets on the lids, crates can maintain temperatures when transferred from trucks to airplanes.
As a TSA trained ** and certified screening facility, we pre-screen cargo that goes on passenger aircraft. This enables us to bypass long lines at the airport and ensures handling of your artwork by trained art handlers rather than airport personnel. We offer 120,000 square feet of temperature and climate controlled storage in New York City and are currently working on a warehouse in Mount Vernon to better serve our Westchester clientele.
** The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created in the wake of 9/11 to strengthen the security of the nation’s transportation systems while ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce. Within a year, TSA assumed responsibility for security at the nation’s airports and deployed a federal workforce to screen all commercial airline passengers and baggage. In March 2003, TSA transitioned from the Department of Transportation to the Department of Homeland Security.
